iPad

AutoCAD WS is essentially the old Butterfly application that was part of Autodesk Labs. Autodesk recently "graduated" Butterfly to an application called AutoCAD WS, which is available for use in a web browser and as an app for the iTouch and iPad.

I was able to finally briefly test drive AutoCAD WS on an Apple iTouch today. I went to the app store, searched for AutoCAD, downloaded and installed it in about a minute. Very easy. After logging in, I found 3 sample drawings available. It was very easy to open a drawing, pan around, zoom in and out, and even measure some items. Changing the drawing view and measuring accurately is another story. Sort of difficult on a tiny screen such as the iTouch. I suspect the iPad would fare a bit better. I went back to a traditional PC and logged in to upload some drawings of my own. This was a breeze, the whole process was very intuitive. It took just a few minutes to upload some drawings, log out, and log back in using the iTouch.

One feature I was not able to test but I find interesting is the ability for two users to view/edit the same drawing at the same time, with real time updates. More information at the following links.
