AutoCAD 2012 Products for the Mac

Autodesk announced today the availability of 3 new products, all for the Mac. AutoCAD 2012 for Mac, AutoCAD 2012 LT for Mac, and AutoCAD WS for Mac.

AutoCAD for Mac was introduced last year for the 2011 version, but there quite a list of missing functionality as compared to AutoCAD for Windows. Although a similar comparison list for 2012 does not exist yet, Autodesk has filled in some of the holes by adding features like Publish, In-place Xref Editing, Layer Filters, Plot Styles, Dynamic Array, etc.

Drawings created with AutoCAD for Mac are fully compatible with AutoCAD for Windows and vice-versa. Note that most Object Enablers are not available for the Mac version so DWG files created with vertical products may not be fully editable viewable in the Mac version. AutoCAD 2012 for Mac will sell for $3999, and the network licensed version will sell for $4999. Both will be available on August 19, 2011.

AutoCAD 2012 LT for Mac is new this year and will be sold exclusively via the Mac App Store for $899 and it is available right now in the US and Canada. If you would like to be notified when AutoCAD 2012 for Mac is available in your country, click here. Network licensing is not available for LT. Autodesk has also made available a product comparison between AutoCAD 2012 for Mac and AutoCAD 2012 LT for Mac.

AutoCAD WS for Mac is also a new product and will be available on August 18, 2011 at the Mac App Store. Currently you can run AutoCAD WS in any browser on any platform, and the WS product specifically for Mac is unique, since there is no equivalent product for Windows. New features for AutoCAD WS in general include

Comments

It's important to note that Object Enablers don't allow you to modify custom objects, only to view them and their properties without the use of Proxy Graphics. In the case of Autocad for Mac, enabling proxies would allow you to see all of the vertical application objects.

I didn't mean to imply that the presence of an OE would enable editing, but I see how it came out like that. Thanks for the comment.

I *think* I heard one of the product managers say that an ACA object enabler was going to be available for AutoCAD 2012 for Mac, but I also know that other OE's are not available such as one for C3D.
