  • AutoCAD 2011 is here

If you have not already figured it out, AutoCAD 2011 will be announced at the webcast and special event held at the Autodesk Gallery today. Check back later today for a post containing the new features in AutoCAD 2011. I'm off to the event right now.

Don't forget to watch the live webcast this morning.

Here is the main post on what it new in 2011

  • Autodesk Special Event is tomorrow

Tomorrow is the Autodesk webcast to "learn about updates to Autodesk’s portfolio of design software for the AEC, manufacturing and general design industries.", presented by Autodesk CEO Carl Bass, and Senior VP Amar Hanspal. I will be a guest of Autodesk at the Autodesk Gallery (seen below) in San Francisco, the location of this live webcast.

By the way, nobody reading this page should miss question #2.

  • Tell Autodesk what you like or dislike about linetypes

The AutoCAD Product Design and Usability Group wants your feedback and input on making and using linetypes in AutoCAD.

I know there are people out there with linetype wishes, because I see them on the AUGI wish list... Maybe you would like an easy way to make a linetype like this (yes, this is a real AutoCAD linetype)

  • Upcoming Autodesk Special Event

A few industry bloggers including myself have been invited to a special Autodesk event next week, part of which will be a live webcast for which registration is now open at http://www.autodesk.com/webcast. In addition to the people listed below, many Autodesk team members will be present also.

More details coming soon. Read more »

  • SHP file polygons

If you have ever imported an ESRI SHP file containing polygons using the ._MAPIMPORT command, and the polygons came in filled, you may have wondered how to turn off this fill.

    SHP file polygons, filled

Use the ._POLYDISPLAY command to enable or disable the fill on these MPOLYGON objects.

    Command: ._POLYDISPLAY
    Enter mpolygon display mode [Edges only/Fill only/Both] : _E

    SHP file polygons, edges only

If for some reason, you don't want MPOLYGON objects, you can control the default object import type (MPOLYGON vs. closed polyline) by running the MAPUSEMPOLYGON command.

    Command: MAPUSEMPOLYGON
Enter new value for MAPUSEMPOLYGON : _OFF
